Slink Wring
-Slink Wring-
In a flurry of gore, the Slink Wring will prolapse itself and pull its victims into its body. While most Wrings leave their victims to incubate, this Wring digests them entirely. The digested prey breaks down to a gelatin within its husk which nourishes its flesh within. A good portion of the gelatin is also excreted from its body as the creature moves about. This ooze has a synergistic affect with the lesser smaller Wrings, as they will use the substance as nutriment.
Footslogger Wring
-Footslogger Wring-
Silent steps until the Slogger is ready to pounce. This creature will unravel itself and slash at its victims with its two-foot-stinger. This appendage is filled with a fast acting necrotic enzyme. From first contact, the victim's skin begins to melt and bubble. Once the Footslogger's prey is incapacitated, it will feed--pulling bits of flesh and sinew into its maw, but leaving the majority of the body intact. At this point the body is seeded to grow into a Wring of its own--type is based on the victims own genome.
The Footslooger typically stands 6' to 8' in height and has been clocked at speeds reaching an astounding 43 mph at full stride.
Slink Wring Iterations
Exocarp Wring
The Exocarp is a heavily armored variant of Wring with propagative properties. Within the pustules of its gaster, it continuously incubates and births a lesser type of Wring called a Parvus. The smaller Wrings are very deadly and will protect the Exocarp at any cost. Their neuro-venom causes their victims to be paralyzed while still maintaining all other functions. Even if days pass, the lumbering Exocarp is assured a fresh meal to help continue her brood.
The Exocarp's bony carapace serves to protect both it and its unborn offspring. When threatened, it will ball its body and emit an noxious gas.
Sepsu Kalum
This was a design I did for FX Creator’s demonstration at Monsterpalooza in 2019. I really wanted to push a mystical/powerful type being but with a tinge of the demonic aesthetic that they so love.
Tsillah Tunnerler of the Void
This design was for a collaborative project between myself and sculptor/makeup artist Akihito. With this design I tried to incorporate a lot of the shape language that this Akihito likes to use in his sculptural work. I was under the impression that the model for the project was going to be an Asian woman and designed it for such. Believe it or not, under all those prosthetics and makeup is the actor Mick Ignis. This was demoed in 2017 at Monsterpalooza. You can see here how close Aki got to the original forms I conceptualized. If you like this character, a writer friend of mine by the name of Kalan Ray created a story for her based on the loose information I gave him. Great stuff! LINK TO STORY
Nautilus Bust
This was a design planned to be turned sculpture by the talented Crystel Land. For this piece I call The Nautilus, I wanted to create a creature that is a soldier of the deep ocean. Perhaps related to the mighty Cthulhu, it and its kind roam the ocean depths until called upon. Here is a link to the making of this character. It starts with a little poem that hints at what these creatures are all about. LINK
Graboid
I tried to incorporate some elements that would allow this creature to push itself faster through the substrate--hence the spiked frills and the spiraled head shape of the Graboid at the bottom. With the heads, I ended up going with the flailing tendril primarily for the busy-cool factor. Runner up for me was the head variant with the bone harpoon it can launch from its forehead.
Also featured are a pair of Graboids wreaking havoc on a poor fella with a gun that is far too small for his own good. This is a display of the third iteration’s shape design. In the end I really liked the functional factor of the spiral shape to the animal’s head.
Pumpkinhead Redesign
This is the initial redesign work for Pumkinhead. With this redesign, my goal was to ground the character more to its environment. I noticed this creature often attacked from the trees in the movie and wanted to create a body that would accommodate that. Long limbs, light build, and feet that could really dig into bark with their talons. I made a few head iterations to explore his overall aesthetic and ended up going with my last one due to the fact that I like the human-grounding nature of the bits of hair.
Captain Sreto Turgar
Tuxus Incubation Battle Droid
The Creeper
The Creeper uses its victims as both tools and to regenerate itself. With this redesign, I tried to push its parasitic aspect further by showing more of a truer form before it feeds and takes a victim. You can see here that The Creeper is utilizing human host in its entirety with the exception of the head.
Xenomorph Redesign
Metamorphosis of the xenomorph showcasing facehugger appendages that have a symbiotic relationship and can detach from the rear feet and back of the creature. The tail itself is a queenmaker facehugger. Its short wings allow for further mobility and jumping.
The Thing Redesign
As The Thing is Amorphous, the challenge here was to redesign how it forms. With this design, I tried to demonstrate how the blood begins to coagulate into a hexagonal pattern as it forms into something more solid.
Skeletor
With this redesign of the iconic character Skeletor I tried to infuse an otherworldly cosmic vibe. His headless body acts as a temporary vessel—the golden ornate skull would remain a constant with his various forms. Pushing the skull motif further, I included it with the bit of magic he is displaying.
Pyramidhead Redesign
For this redesign of Pyramid Head, I wanted to lean away from the human form as well as accommodate for carrying such an enormous weapon—hence the extra arm. Pushing the fact that this character is indeed a tortured being, I made his body somewhat of a pin/sword cushion. I added a Gothic vibe to the character as the Silent Hill movie had lots of dark religious overtones.
Freddy Krueger
As Freddy is basically a wraith, I really tried to amplify that fact with my redesign of him. To me, his old look seemed a bit too grounded to the material realm and needed a fresh take. In essence, he has become his clawed glove and the fire that burns within him is his own personal inner pain and hell.
The Paleman
For my redesign of Guillermo Del Toro’s Pale Man I really tried to push a similar but more dangerous looking aesthetic. I liked the idea of this creature putting its hands up to its head to see quite a bit, so I wanted to push that dynamic closer towards the edge. For my design, the Paleman digs its gruesome fingers into its skull to complete its synapse to be able to see.
Also featured is a quick 3D Sketch mocked up made in Oculus Medium which showcases the gangly limbs of this ever-starving demon. The stomach I made hollow to further imply that fact. Those red bits hanging from his belt are the shoes of his favorite children he has eaten.
Nemesis Tyrant Redesign
With this redesign, I tried to push a grittier and less polished aesthetic while still showing function. The Nemesis Tyrant was once human and now turned into a militaristic war machine with no will of its own. With his armor, I used a similar overall shape to the original, but tried to push a more simple yet functional dynamic. The same is to be said for his “hamzooka”.
Chucky
I really liked the idea of the 2019 Child’s Play movie incorporating a Chucky doll that has “smart” capabilities. For my redesign, I wanted to give him a fresh look, something that you would see in a children’s cartoon, hence the cape and little arrow motif. I imagine him having some type of slogan that aligns with flying as opposed to just saying that “You’re my best friend” etc. Throughout this Chucky’s movie, I can see him displaying disturbing scenes on his chest screen and using his hologram hands to project other unsightly things to instill fear. His face would become more human in a less linear way than the original as time progresses—more of a rot-then-grow type of process as vein make their way into the plastic.
Shredder
I really wanted to tie this design to the turtles that I already made an illustration of in a way that he would look formidable to them...also gritty... always gritty. I think a cool origin for my design would be that he is perhaps a human/alien hybrid that has adapted his tech via superior intelligence over time. I made his torso a bit long as I see him moving in an inhuman way--super bendy etc. He is the originator of the foot clan and is just as old. As for his sword type weapon, I can see it sliding forward to create length or back to attack oncoming enemies via some kind of rotary technology within the apparatus on his arm. His sword technique would be really interesting to see in motion compounded with his bendy nature.
Raziel Redesign
The orginal idea for a jawless vampire wraith is fantastic. With my redesign of the iconic Raziel I really wanted to tie him to the original broken sword—hence his face covering which is made from the remnants of it.
Other changes include the way his wings attach to his body and his sword is a mix of the miasma we know from the franchise along with the dead blood of his body.
Ratlord Selveraunn
This was for a design contest hosted by Plarium for their game Raid Shadow Legends. The prompt was to design a character that would fit their character design aesthetic. We were to choose any army/faction to design within and this character was made to be part of the Skinwalkers—a band of humanoids that are animal themed. I chose to make a rat as there was already a mouse character in the game.
